It would seem the Paul Feig / Melissa McCarthy comedy train is ready to keep clanking right along. The actress is now in early talks to star in the writer/director’s next planned project, Susan Cooper.
We say early talks because McCarthy would have to juggle her TV duties on Mike & Molly and the work she’s putting in to editing Tammy, which she co-wrote, produced and directed alongside husband Ben Falcone, in order to do the part. Still, given the easy working chemistry between Feig and McCarthy on Bridesmaids and this year’s The Heat, we figure she’ll try to make it work.
Feig’s latest is described as a spy film the same way The Heat was about cops: a comedy, but not a Spy Hard-style spoof. The aim is to be realistic in the Casino Royale vein, albeit with less testicle punishment. Or possibly a lot more of it?
It’s been a successful year for McCarthy, with box office wins across the pond with both Identity Thief and The Heat, which co-stars Sandra Bullock and makes its way over here next week. McCarthy is currently shooting St. Vincent de Van Nuys alongside Bill Murray, Naomi Watts, Terrence Howard and Chris O’Dowd.
