New Oldboy Poster Emerges

For those of you who have a Josh Brolin in your lives, you know that the care and feeding of such creatures is very important. But what happens when you have to take them with you on holiday? Or to the vet? Not to worry, the Brolin Box 500 is here to solve all your problems. It includes secure locks and a place for your Brolin’s favourite toy… Sorry, we’re being told that this is actually the first poster for Spike Lee’s ambitious, intriguing remake of Park Chan-Wook’s 2004 film Oldboy.

This is actually the second promotional image (after this more traditional tease) for Lee’s take on the Manga, which Westernises the story of a man imprisoned for reasons he can’t fathom, locked away for years and then just as mysteriously released to seek vengeance against those he thinks are responsible. Who is telling the truth? And who will survive?

According to the gang at Collider, the new poster’s image features an actual shot from the movie, not a clever composite, so Lee definitely has our attention.

Oldboy co-stars Samuel L Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Michael Imperioli and Lance Reddick. Olsen talked about the film on the Empire Podcast, and you can hear that interview below. The movie will be out on December 6.

the new spike lee oldboy poster and trailer follows the same track that the chan wook park original takes but looks terrible the Hollywood style of movies cannot compete with the fine artistic elements of Korean cinema and me being a keen Korean cinema lover wonders why spike lee choose old boy as its part of chan wook park's vengeance trilogy and wouldn't it make more sense to start with "sympathy for mr vengeance" before jumping to the second film in the series. I hope for Spike Lee's case that he tries to throw his own originality into this film because copying Park Chan-wook effort,frame-by-frame or act-by-act,would just seem to be a totally pointless exercise. Maybe Spike might delve back into the roots of the Manga in which Wook's Oldboy was loosely based on,who knows. More

Certainly not about a man taking sweet hammer-wielding revenge on captors, dentures and octopuses. They need to back to the marketing board for this one. More
