Terminator Reboot Set For 2015
Though Arnie will also be back...

Terminator 2

Depending on how you feel about the idea, the new take on Terminator is now either promised or threatened, because Paramount and production companies Skydance Productions and Annapurna Pictures have now set a June 26, 2015 release date for what is currently just called Terminator.

Yes, just when you thought 2015 couldn’t get any more crowded, along comes another big title, assuming, of course, everything goes smoothly in the manufacturing stage.

As some have already assumed, the press release makes the companies’ plan clear: this is intended as a reboot of the franchise and will be the first part of a hoped-for trilogy. But despite the reworking, Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back in some capacity, even if the release doesn’t specify what that might be (and, in truth, only mentions him as the star of the original run).

And just what does this mean for The Legend Of Conan, which sees the Austrian Oak returning to one of his other iconic characters? Producer Fredrik Malmberg isn’t worried, even though this new Terminator news would seem to conflict with Conan’s planned schedule. "We are still developing,” he told Empire. “Arnold is excited and one good thing doesn't take away the other. Scheduling production around major stars is happening all the time."

Avatar’s Laeta Kalogridis and Drive Angry’s Patrick Lussier have been at work fashioning a Terminator script and the next step will be to find a director willing to step into James Cameron’s shoes. Speaking of which, everyone is in a hurry to get the new movies made before the rights to the franchise revert back to the creator of the whole thing…

So: 2015 for a new Terminator. How does that make you feel? Let us know in the comments and on Twitter.

I hope its a flop so Hollywood can actually learn that the world is sick of reboots. There is plenty of originality waiting to be watched made by upcoming filmmakers. I would watch it if its a continuation from Salvation. More

I'll be cack...
Reboot one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time? Bring back its original star who has been clinging to the original movies coattails for nearly 30 years? Planning a trilogy without even having a first "killer movie" ready for release? A blueprint for everything that can be so wrong with modern cinema More

What about the Christian Bale movie?
Man, I wish they'd continued on with the plot set out in the fourth movie. Obviously it wasn't as good as the first two but I enjoyed it and would have liked to see the war between the robots and humans and how John Connor eventually defeats them. There's no point in starting from scratch and covering the same territory again. The first two can't be bettered so why not focus on the rest of the story that we haven't seen yet? More

RE: Terminator Reboot Set For 2015
Oh dear god you have got to be kidding me. The first two Terminators were some of my favorite all time Sci-Fi's growing up. Still when I watch them to this day they are still cracking films with great characters and a brilliantly executed idea. They made the third film which was pretty average... should have had Ed Furlong back for that... big mistake... then they make Salvation which again had some OK moments but never came close to repeating the chemistry of the first two movies. Money
The only way they can do a trilogy is that the first one does well so I think paramount are confident,BUT ,I keep repeating this in other forums in the past,go back to the original look of the terminator, forget the flattop, the style arnie had it when he first arrived, that look was menacing .arnie could come back but maybe have different looking terminators but with his voice in all of them.heres hoping More

I'm boycotting this ...
... I've absolutely had enough of hundreds of millions of dollars being used to make uninmaginative reboot/remake crap. Maybe if we all stop watching it they'll finally stop making it. We're in control, not them. It's our money being spent, after all. More

Yeah what happened to the last new trilogy they wanted to make? I though Salvation was a good enough film to build upon and did okay at the box office? L: UTB Ah the old 'new trilogy' routine. How about they focus on ONE good film, then we'll talk about trilogies. More
