After being made into a pilot but never making it to series, Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez' comic book Locke & Key has been picked up by Universal for a film adaptation, with Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci producing alongside Bobby Cohen and Ted Adams. Yes, we might see Keyhouse on the big screen yet.

The story, for those yet to read the comic, sees Nina Locke and her children Tyler, Kinsey and Bode move back to the family's ancestral home after a tragedy. But there the kids discover some mysterious properties in the big old house in the town of Lovecraft (yes, a very deliberate reference). The good news is that there are magical keys that, when used to unlock various doors in the house, can give you crazy adventures, turning you into a ghost or giving you wings or whatever. The bad news is that there are some seriously scary things behind some of those doors as well.

The final volume of the comics, Alpha And Omega, comes out later this year, and there's enough material that this could easily be a franchise for the studio - something we're sure they're hoping for. With Kurtzman and Orci producing, there should be some momentum behind this, and we just hope that they can capture what makes the books work onscreen. For a bit more of a taster, check out the trailer for the abandoned show below. Please don't dissapoint!
I'm a huge fan of the books and kinda glad the series didn't get made. Watching the trailer, it somehow didn't catch the mood. If done well this could be big. If not: we'll have another Eragon/Golden Compass on our hands. More
