Iain De Caestecker Knows How To Catch A Monster
For director Ryan Gosling

Iain De Caestecker, The Fades

If it wasn’t already a good time to be Iain De Caestecker, what with graduating from soaps to the likes of The Fades and The Secret Of Crickley Hall, it certainly is now. He already has a regular role on Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., co-created and overseen by some bloke called Whedon, and he’s now been picked to star in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut How To Catch A Monster.

After a long hunt for the right person, Gosling selected De Caestecker to play Christina Hendricks’ son in the film, which is now shooting. Hendricks' Billy is a single mother who is swept into a dark underworld, with her teenage son (De Caestecker, who's actually 26 and only 13 years younger than his screen mother) journeying to a secret underwater town. They have to confront challenges to save their family.

The cast also includes Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan (who talked briefly about the movie during our chat with her on the Podcast here), Ben Mendelsohn, Barbara Steele and Eva Mendes. It’s shooting right now and is set to hit screens next year.

De Caestecker is next set to appear in Filth (out September 27) and In Fear (due November 8). The S.H.I.E.LD. show doesn’t have a UK broadcaster yet, but we’d expect that to be announced before too long.
