The new trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium sort of sneaks up on you. While much of the footage is what we’ve seen in previous promos, the latter chunk is filled to the brim with fresh action moments, now that the effects team have had time to work on more of the whizz-bang goodness. If you’re worried about seeing too much, you might consider skipping this lengthy promo, but if not… enjoy! 

Elysium is set in 2154, where society is split into the haves and have-nots. The rich and wealthy live on the titular orbiting platform, a paradise where every whim is catered to and even serious illnesses are a thing of the past.

Everyone else is reduced to scrabbling for what they can get on a ruined, filthy Earth. It’s here we find Max De Costa (Matt Damon), who is exposed to radiation while working and finds out he doesn’t have long to live. Unless, that is, he can break in to Elysium’s heavily guarded chambers and get the treatment he needs. Oh, and he may just have to save everyone else at the same time.

But the task won’t be easy, particularly with the sniffy Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster) making sure the place stays secure and tough mercenary warrior Kruger (Sharlto Copley) carrying out her orders…

We want to see this one, and we want to see this now. August 23 seems like a long way away…

This year is looking like an excellent year for big releases. Loved District 9 and thought it couldn't be bettered but this actually looks even better! Can't wait! More

This does look really good.....
....wasn't too fussed before, but the trailer got my attention. Matt Damon seems to have nailed it and it looks amazing. Why doesn't Jodie Foster do more films? She's too good to waste. More

way too long for a trailer,but holy shit screw superman and the hobbit this is my most anticipated movie of the year,epic and intelligent sci-fi...oh lordy! and agree...he should be given the chance to do the second star wars film More

I agree the trailer gives LOTS away, but I CAN NOT WAIT for this to arrive! Can't we petition for Blomkamp to do a Star Wars movie?? He's been in my mind as a director for the franchise since Alive in Joburg... Now That'd be of the hook! :-) More

Seriously, that trailer tells the plot of the entire frickin film !!!! What's the point in paying to go and see that now ? It looks awesome but that has literally ruined it. Not that i'm blaming Empire, they did warn me in the article. More

Halo Lives On
Loving that Blomkamp's desire to do a Halo film shows through with Elysium as much as District 9. Special effects look fantastic, could be a winner on the IMAX. More
