New Planes Trailer Buzzes The Tower
Oh, for flying out loud...

28 May 2013  |  Written by James White

How much you’re excited by this new spin-off to Pixar’s Cars (one not produced in Emeryville itself, but by Disney Toons Studios) probably depends on your enthusiasm for the motor-driven franchise itself. Still, the new Planes trailer promises lots of aerobatics, so enjoy that along with plentiful gags about flying.

Planes finds lowly crop duster Dusty (Dane Cook) dreaming of competing against the best of the best of the best in an elite air race. There’s just one teeny, tiny problem: he’s good at his crop dusting gig because he’s afraid to fly too high. Can he overcome his worries to accomplish his big desire? Well, this is an underdog story…

The film boasts the voice talents of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Teri Hatcher, John Cleese, Priyanka Chopra, Stacey Keach, Sinbad, Cedric The Entertainer, Carlos Alazraqui, Roger Craig Smith and, in a Top Gun reunion, Anthony “Goose” Edwards and Val “Iceman” Kilmer. We’ll have to wait and see if (spoiler alert for anyone who has not seen the 27-year-old film yet) Edwards’ character survives to the end…

Directed by Klay Hall, Planes flies into our cinemas on August 16.
