With 20th Century Fox looking to keep its superhero family album stocked, the new version of Fantastic Four already has a 2015 release date in mind even though it hasn’t officially begun production. Now, according to The Wrap, director Josh Trank is considering Michael B. Jordan to play Johnny Storm, AKA The Human Torch.
Trank, of course, helped push Jordan’s career to the next level via Chronicle, and the pair has an established working relationship. Yet right now, it’s still very early days: we remain in the “studio makes big list of people it thinks might be right for roles in big superhero blockbuster” stage of development and anything could happen.
Jordan’s definitely got the chops to pull off the blend of cocky arrogance and charisma needed for Johnny Storm (played in the first two movies by, lest we forget, Chris Evans), though apparently his participation might depend on his chemistry with others cast as the rest of the Four. So far, the only real rumour has Girls’ Allison Williams mentioned as a possible Sue Storm, aka Johnny's sister.
Jordan has been wining plaudits for his role in true-life indie drama Fruitvale Station and is also part of the cast for romantic comedy Are We Officially Dating?
