Jon Favreau Stirs Up Chef
He's considering an indie comedy

Jon Favreau

These days, Jon Favreau is better known as the director of big budget, large-scale movies such as the first two Iron Man entries and Cowboys & Aliens. Yet he got his megaphone start on the likes of Made, and it appears he’s ready to dip back into the indie kitchen with Chef.

According to Variety, he’s still in talks to write, direct and star, and no deals have been made yet. If he does lock in the job, he’ll play an emotional chef running a Los Angeles restaurant.

There’s already a project with a similar title that has Omar Sy and Bradley Cooper interested bubbling away on the development burner, but it’s not known if this is the same film. From the synopsis, it sounds like a different beast altogether.

Favreau has been trying to develop his next film as a director for a while now, working up an adaptation of the Jersey Boys musical, only to leave when he couldn’t get Warner Bros. to give it the greenlight. He’s also got Magic Kingdom simmering away at Disney. If Chef comes together, chances are he’ll make it his next film so he can get one moving at last.

Acting-wise, he’s back on our screens as Happy Hogan in Iron Man 3 and will be seen in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street, which arrives in November across the pond, but has yet to set a UK date.
