Joseph Kosinski Off To Ballistic City
For a new sci-fi TV show

When we chatted to Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski at WonderCon recently, he admitted that he had other projects bubbling away but played coy when pressed for more details. Now one of those mystery plans has been officially announced, with US cable channel AMC putting futuristic drama Ballistic City into development.

Written and co-produced by Pacific Rim’s Travis Beacham with Kosinski directing and co-producing the pilot, the new show is described as a splice of Blade Runner and Battlestar Galactica. It’ll follow a former cop who delves into the criminal underworld of a city that’s part of a massive generational spaceship on a voyage to an unknown world.

There’s no word on when the series might hit our small screens, but AMC (which also produces the likes of Breaking Bad and The Killing) apparently feels it could be a companion – in the States, at least – to The Walking Dead.

That’s not the only series the channel is working on. There’s also Ashland, a drama set against the backdrop of the early 1950s communist witch-hunt in Hollywood. The plot finds the destitute, desperate wife of a blacklisted screenwriter moving her family to the titular Kentucky town, where she’ll have to hide their secrets and support her thee children. That one comes from Allison Anders and Terry Graham.
