Stanley Tucci Boards Transformers 4
And it'll be partly shot in IMAX 3D

Taking the stage with his trademark laidback-yet-effusive style, Michael Bay brought his latest, Pain And Gain, to the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas last night. He was there as part of Paramount Studios’ big presentation, which saw him also drop word that Transformers 4 will feature Stanley Tucci and will be shot – large chunks of the action, at least – in IMAX 3D.

Bay didn’t elaborate on what Tucci will be doing in the film, though there’s a chance he could be the sort of officious, OTT character played in previous outings by John Turturro. The director also dropped word that another big name was close to signing on, but that he couldn’t say whom because the deal wasn’t done. Whoever they are, they'll will join Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor in a story set after the events of the huge Autobot/Decepticon battle in Chicago.

The fourth Transformers film is part of a five-movie deal between Paramount and IMAX, which will also see Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and three as-yet-unannounced titles utilise the format. Nolan, of course has been a proponent of shooting in the format for a while now, having filmed chunks of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises using the company’s cameras. Bay previously used 3D for Transformers 3.

Paramount also showed brief clips of other upcoming films, including Jack Ryan, Jason Reitman’s Labor Day, Darren Aronofsky’s Noah and Alexander Payne’s Nebraska, which is shot in black and white and features at least one standout funny moment.

Transformers 4, meanwhile, kicks off shooting shortly and will be out here on July 10, 2014.
