No Kryptonite In Man Of Steel
Zod on Earth...?

With the new issue of Entertainment Weekly comes a welter of new Man Of Steel images, and also an intriguing snippet of new information. There's already, controversially, not a pair of red pants to be seen, but now we learn there'll also be narry a trace of kryptonite in the film. Given that the glowy green substance is Superman's only weakness, what on Earth is going to make him in any way vulnerable enough for any Zod-fearing drama?

"I'll be honest with you: there's no Kryptonite in the movie," director Zack Snyder tells EW. Henry Cavill, donning the Supes cape, elaborates (slightly) that, "Although he is not susceptible to the frailties of mankind, he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties." Aw no, he's not going to be laid low by feelings, is he? But seriously, with three equally super-powered but considerably less sympathetic fellow Kryptonians to deal with in this film, Superman faces worse than a mere green rock this time around, so perhaps this is a sensible omission.

Whatever the weather, there are more pics of Cavill, Michael Shannon's fierce-looking Zod, Russell Crowe's Jor-El, Amy Adams' Lois Lane, and a glimpse of Antje Traue as "femme fatale" Faora, doing some sort of Vulcan mind-meld schtick (or something) out in EW, for your looking-at pleasure.

Man Of Steel is out in the UK on June 14.

How do you feel about the lack of Kryptonite?
Super, thanks for asking.
All we need is Zod; it'll be fine
Radioactive Man wouldn't stand for this shit!
Does this only refer to the green sort? Will there be blue, orange or red?
Can we have some xenonite instead? (Chemistry joke for you there)

Don't really matter
It's a Zod story - why would you need Kryptonite? Zod wouldn't be able to use it against him as it would have the same effect on him as well. It makes sense. Other things can harm Supes such as other Kryptonians and Doomsday (who is sort of another Kryptonian) and Darkseid. They don't have Kryptonite in every Supes comic. More

RE: No Kryptonite In Man Of Steel
ptonite? No red pants? And no Krypto The Superdog either, I'll bet. And what's this about "feelings"? You'll be telling me there's girls in it next - YUCK! This film is a travesty of a mockery of a sham and a betrayal of THE LEGEND! Needless to say, I'm boycotting it. Etc... More

Er, Good!
I never bought into the whole Kryptonite-susceptibility, to be honest; if the stuff can flatten Superman it should obliterate regular humans, but no. Why? We're not from Krypton... not good enough. That's like saying Alpha Centauri - or Rigel Kent *wink* - couldn't burn us to a crisp because it's not our sun! Supes' weakness should come from encountering foes stronger than he. Man Of Steel sounds promising. More

The Krypton Factor
Kryptonite will feature in Man Of Steel 2: The Krypton Factor where Superman enters a reality singing contest and must fight super baddie Simon Cowell and his enormous ego & trousers. Cowell produces Kryptonite and has Cheryl Cole place it around his neck. More

We'll get over it
Cant wait for this. I remeber going to see Returns in the cinema and I loved it then and still do now. It does have its flaws, but I still get excited everytime I watch the scene where he rescues the aeroplane, and I did love Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther, but Supes needs a proper threat and I hope he gets it in this movie, and im sure Zach Snyder will bring his bit of magic to this movie. RE: Vulnerable
It would be a poor movie watching two super humans not able to fight because they have both been exposed to Kryptonite. Like 'The Fast Shows' longest fight scene ever. More

Blurgh...
"he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties"...sounds like Dawson's Creek in a cape!! I shall watch this though as I am a media whore, a tremendous geek and to be honest the trailer gave me an erection.... More

RE: More Superman Returns fallout it sounds like
L: betsy101 Bet you anything some Warner exec said "no kyrptonite! There was too much kryptonite in Superman Returns!" I'm sure they'll bring it into the Man Of Steel sequel (if there is one!) The jury is still out on this on for me. I don't like the costume (why do all Zack Snyder superhero costumes look like they were left over from Batman & Robin!) I definitely want to see what they've done! I guess time will tell... think that they'll be playing on his humanity being a w More

RE: Vulnerable
L: talltom I'm assuming that Zod - as a fellow Kryptonian - will still be in possession of the same powers as Supes on Earth, and thereby more than a mild threat, red pants or not GN reported on this today and said: “EW also saw footage from the film and reveals that in the movie little Kal-El is special even on his doomed home planet of Krypton, where his birth is said to cause alarm among some citizens.” Sounds intriguing and suggests he's more powerful than Zod & co.
