Filth Trailer Arrives Online
Warning: NOT safe for work

James McAvoy in Filth

James McAvoy has recently been getting in touch with his Scottish roots onstage in Macbeth, but he's gone full Glaswegian* onscreen in Filth, as the violent, drink-addled, drug-addicted, thoroughly reprehensible Bruce Robertson, the protagonist of Irvine Welsh's story. And you can see just how far he's gone to the bad in this trailer, which is not safe for work so we've put it at the bottom of the page in case your boss looks over your shoulder.

The plot sees McAvoy's corrupt, bigoted cop up for promotion, and determined to do everything possible (which in his case is quite a lot) to block the path of rival Ray Lennox (Jamie Bell) and his other colleagues. That's when he can spare time from his busy drinking / screwing / drug-snorting schedule, of course.

The film also stars Eddie Marsan, Jim Broadbent, Joanne Froggatt, Shirley Henderson, Kate Dickie and Imogen Poots, and is directed and adapted by Jon S. Baird. It's due to hit screens in September, so there's still time to brace yourselves for what promises to be an swearfest of epic proportions.

*Actually from Edinburgh in the book, but this trailer feels more Begbie's-Glasgow to us. Apologies to the law-abiding citizens of that city.

Adaptation
This is what looks to be a great adaptation of an Irvine Welsh at last. Not been one since Trainspotting. Ecstasy and Acid House were both Meh. Doesn’t matter that it’s not a 100% like the book. Trainspotting changed loads but was true to the spirit and feel of the novel. Think this will be good. Hope they follow it up with Crime. I loved Crime even more than Filth. More

Not how I imagined Bruce, he reads as quieter and nastier. And who is playing the tapeworm? More

McAvoy overdose
I have to agree withacertree. Enough of McAvoy already. In my opinion he's not even that good. He's terrible in X-Men First Class. The book is brilliant so I'm looking forward to this regardless but take a break James, Enjoy your winnings! More

G.B
Why does he remind me so much of Gerard Butler in this trailer? Weird. Looks great though. Cinema is too weary about solid 18 movies these days. Watering them down to nothing. I hope this is true to the roots. More

Weary of McAvoy
Must admit I'm getting weary of McAvoy films. Weve had two in the last month or two and now another trailer. More

Another one to look forward to! Glad to see that everyone's staying true to the roots of what is a depraved, scabrous hilarious, car-crash of a novel. Bring on Porno....! More
