Recently, we were surprised to learn that Robert Redford – usually to be found directing and starring in worthy dramas or running the Sundance Film Festival – was in talks for a role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Well, now he’s locked in and is talking about his decision to jump into the superhero adventure.
Out doing the press rounds for his latest, The Company You Keep, Redford explained to Spinoff Online why he chose to enter the Marvel universe when Disney came calling. “The Captain America thing is just a very simple thing,” he says. “I wanted to do something different. I wanted to do something just to be different. Something bold, different. And that felt like a good thing to do. That was it, nothing more to it than that. Well, it’s bold in terms of expectations, I guess.”
When asked to clarify whom he’ll be playing, he’d say only, “the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. The head of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Which makes us wonder where he’ll fall in the chain of command between Director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and the world council we saw overriding him in Avengers.
