As the Young Adult arms race to find the next Potter/Twilight/Hunger Games success continues, one of the big contenders has thrown its trailer hat into the ring months ahead of its release. The new promo for The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones has arrived over on Apple’s site.

Drawn from the first book in Cassandra Clare’s series of six novels, the story finds seemingly ordinary teenager Clary Fray (Lily Collins) making her way through life with her mother Jocelyn (Lena Headey). But then Clary’s life takes a couple of turns for the weird: her mother disappears, seemingly kidnapped and she discovers that there’s a whole world co-existing with our own that humans can’t perceive.

Turns out Clary is a half-angel creature known as a 'Shadowhunter', part of a group tasked with stopping demonic plans to destroy humanity. She meets Jace, the brooding, sarcastic warrior who destroys a demon in front of her and gives her the first inkling that not everything is what it seems.

Harald Zwart directed this one from a script by Jessica Postigo. The cast includes Jared Harris, Aidan Turner, Robert Sheehan, Kevin Zegers and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. It’ll hit our screens on August 23.
