Another Escape From New York?
'Re-telling' trilogy planned

Kurt Russell, Escape From Nwe York

If you look up ‘Badass Snake Plissken’ in the Big Book Of Iconic Movie Characters there is only ever a picture of Kurt Russell next to it. But that undisputed fact isn’t stopping another team from having a crack at reworking John Carpenter’s cult sci-fi favourite Escape From New York. Joel Silver and StudioCanal are the brave souls trying this time, braver still for the fact that they apparently want to attempt a trilogy based around Carpenter’s film.

The new plan calls first for a prequel that will dig into the time leading to Snake’s mission to rescue the President from a dystopian Manhattan, which has been abandoned/converted into a huge maximum-security prison. Figuring on a Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes idea, we’d guess they’d also show some of Snake’s back story. Though, if we’re honest, we’re not sure we need to explore that.

Still, if it works, it could be amazing - but that’s a big 'if'. Companies – especially New Line, with its long-gestating attempt to put the likes of Gerard Butler and Jeremy Renner into the eyepatch – have tried before without success. And adapting Carpenter’s movies hasn’t exactly led to a bumper crop of new material. But we’ll wait and see what happens this time.

"I Know What You Assholes Are Lookin' At, But It's Not The President"
Escape From New York could be improved upon. The first half hour is great but once Snake lands in New York, it quickly loses it's way (especially that godawful dance number with the convicts in drag that kills any tension there was.) Some of it is very dated now also. A remake might not be a bad idea. More

I'm not gonna go all "Oh, another shitey Hollywood remake!" because every so often you get a good one. It just all depends on who makes it, and Silver's involvement is making things look a little brighter to me. BUT...who the hell is gonna play Snake Plissken? I can't really think of anyone who could replace good old Kurt. More

Could be quite cool - always wondered about the backstory for Snake. More

Again with the scabs...
Please Hollywood, some classic films are like scabs; they should be left well alone. More

Could work, Escape from New York is fantastic but at the same time quite flawed (especially in the pacing) as a movie.. I'd watch it More

Safe Pair Of Hands
at least mr silver is in charge. he has a good track record with SF and may do well picking the director and cast. More

A Better Idea
Dear, Hollywood, Please don't bother. Save yourself the hassle and just go and make Lockout 2. It was pretty much a reimagining of this classic anyway, and it introduced us to one of the most entertaining (and unexpected) action leads in years - Guy Pearce! More
