Rose Byrne To Become A Townie
And also says This Is Where I Leave You

15 March 2013  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

These are busy times for Rose Byrne. Having only just finished back-to-back shoots on horror sequel Insidious: Chapter 2 and Owen Wilson / Vince Vaughn vehicle The Internship, she looks to be heading straight into frat-boy comedy Townies and the impressive ensemble of This Is Where I Leave You. Dammit, that's the kind of work ethic that just makes the rest of us look bad.

We're only officially at the "talks" stage for both so far, but assuming Byrne signs on the lines, she'd be playing, respectively, the love interests of Jason Bateman and Seth Rogen.

Townies looks to be the one headed before the cameras first. Directed by Nick Stoller with a screenplay by Andrew Cohen and Brendan O'Brien, it's an R-rated comedy about man-child Rogen and his relationship with the frat-house down the street. Zac Efron is playing the head frat-boy, and Byrne's role would be as Rogen's wife, described as "the adult in the relationship".

This Is Where I Leave You, meanwhile, would reunite Byrne with her Internship director Shawn Levy. This one's about a family of dysfunctional siblings forced to spend a week together as a reult of their father's dying wish. Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Kathryn Hahn and Corey Stall are all already aboard along with Bateman, and this one would see Byrne as the romantic lead, an old crush of Bateman's.

It's kind of worth saying that, in this day and age, it's a shame that someone as good as Byrne is still generally restricted to girlfriend/wife roles. But as long as she gets to do interesting stuff within those confines, we guess we won't complain too much. At least we're getting to see her pleasingly often.

Townies is set for a spring shoot, with This Is Where I Leave You getting going in the summer. The Internship is out in the UK on July 4, while Insidious: Chapter 2 is likely to be released somewhere near Hallowe'en.
