Kevin Smith Starts Clerks III
He began scripting at 4:20am on Friday

Clerks 2

Though it might appear as though Kevin Smith spends all his time on Twitter or recording podcasts, the ever-productive filmmaker/raconteur always seems to find the time to do other things. In this case the time was – apparently, unless it was an attempt at stoner humour  – 4:20am on Friday morning. The thing? Starting work writing Clerks III.

Smith announced in December that with hockey story Hit Somebody finally repurposed as a TV miniseries due to its hefty length, he now wanted to make the third Clerks outing as his cinematic swansong. Or, as he wrote on Twitter, “I'm goin' out like I came in: devoid of talent AND color! ‪#FullCircle son!”

Taking to Facebook on Friday, he posted a photo of the title page for Clerks III, along with the message, “20 years ago today, we started shooting Clerks. 20 years later, with no plan or provocation, I jumped out of bed at 4:20 this morning and started writing Clerks III. It's been like hanging out with old friends. And after 2 hours of tapping the keys and giggling, I have come to a conclusion... Clerks III will be the best film I'll ever make.”

Of course, while he can probably count on most of the cast returning, he still has to convince Jeff Anderson to sign on as Randall. But he came back for the second film. And that had a donkey show joke in it.

Smith, meanwhile, is also partly behind the new Jay and Silent Bob cartoon film, which has a trailer out now…

RE:
"Clerks III will be the best film I'll ever make.” I wonder if this simply means that it will be his last film. Seems pretty confident and as it's future tense (he doesn't say "this will be my best film") it could suggest this. More

Getting a bit tired of this bloke saying he's quitting movie's then says he's making this, then that'll be it, then there'll be Clerks 4 or Chasing Amy 2. Make up your damn mind Smithy boy! More

Kevin Smith is now a hack...
What Kevin, you couldn't come up with a new idea? I suppose you just torpedoed them all after Jersey Girl....You've proven you can't make a good movie anymore, just go out quietly into the night, no need to pull a George Lucas on it. Clerks III will be your Jar-Jar Binks... More

RE: Meh..............
No way if he's going out then I think it should be like this full circle & as for Clerks 2 I still think that has some of the funniest stuff you'll see & way funnier than 90% of the crap coming out on the big screen nowdays, though will say if they don't get Anderson on board then there is no point to Clerks III. Meh..............
.... loved Kevin Smith for the longest time catching Clerks on release in America when it first hit. Mallrats, Chasing Amy and Dogma were viewed as many times as anything in my VHS/DVD collection then Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back came out and whilst still funny, the shine was slightly taken off.. Then the abomination of Clerks II happened and now he want's a second stab at bottling lighting. Don;t do it man - love you wife, enjoy your kids and just chill. We don't need i More
