Ahmet Zappa Plans Monster X
A classic horror mash-up

10 March 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Dracula, Frankenstain

Even with superheroes and fairy tales dominating the box office, the interest in classic monsters such as Dracula and Mr Hyde has never been stronger. Half the studios in Hollywood seem to be working up spins on the horror hall of fame and production companies Benderspink and Monsterfoot Productions are no different, nabbing Ahmet Zappa’s script Monster X.

Zappa, who germinated the seed story for Disney’s strange family fable The Odd Life Of Timothy Green (due to finally arrive here April 5), is behind the new script.

Little has been released about the story save for the basic concept: Monster X will see a gathering of 10 (hence the Roman numeral) well-known creatures, including Frankenstein’s monster, to defend humanity against an even great threat. It’s being described as an Avengers-style take on the characters. Because, after all, why wouldn’t want to find some connection with the most successful film of last year?

Producers Chris Bender, JS Spink and Jake Weiner will develop the script further before getting it out to potential buyers. Zappa appears to be a little obsessed with monsters, as he also has Monster Witness Relocation Program and The Monstrous Memoirs Of A Mighty McFearless in development at Disney.
