Jack Slays The US Box Office
But the take is not so giant...

Jack The Giant Slayer

Bryan Singer might be busy getting ready to make X-Men: Days Of Future Past, but for the last few days, all eyes have been on his latest film, Jack The Giant Slayer. While it scored first place in the charts this weekend, it’s not exactly a storming success, pointing to possible fairytale fatigue among audiences. Jack managed $28 million this weekend, a soft start for a film whose budget nudged towards $200 million.

Jason Bateman/Melissa McCarthy comedy Identity Thief continues to do well, dropping just one place to second after hopping back up to first last week. It made $9.7 million to best newcomers 21 And Over, the Hangover-style college comedy, which took in $9 million in third, and horror sequel The Last Exorcism Part II, which scared up $8 million for forth place. Rounding out the top five was Snitch with $7.7 million.

Sixth place went to the latest Nicholas Sparks romance Safe Haven, which pulled in $6.3 million, above ‘toon Escape From Planet Earth in seventh with $6.2 million. Eighth was Silver Linings Playbook ($5.9 million), ninth was A Good Day To Die Hard ($4.5 million) and Dark Skies sank to 10th with $3.5 million.

To see a beanstalk chopped down by Melissa McCarthy in the full charts, head to Box Office Mojo.
