Latest Oblivion Trailer Lands
Cruise finds there's no place like home

28 February 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Apple

Well, that was predictable. We really should’ve seen the signs with the new posters yesterday, building up to the arrival of a fresh trailer for Tom Cruise sci-fi pic Oblivion.

Joseph Kosinski’s film is set 60 years after humanity barely won a conflict with a nasty alien race. In the process of scraping a victory, the Earth was scorched and no human lives permanently on the surface.

But while the vast majority of the populace have relocated to giant orbital cities, someone still has to guard the world’s surface from scavengers, and that falls to people like Jack Harper (Cruise), a repairman who maintains the robotic defence drones.

Jack’s life is one of routine (as this trailer makes clear) and while he’s eager to join partner/lover Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) in a floating city once his tour is done, he has mixed feelings about leaving the planet behind. Then a spaceship pod crashes near him, containing a mysterious, beautiful woman (Olga Kurylenko) and things get a lot more complicated…

With a lot more of the effects work finished, we get to see even more spectacle this time around, making this look like a blend of The Matrix and a Philip K Dick novel with a dash of Star Wars-style action.

Oblivion arrives on April 12.

Looks good
I like the look of this, the main part of plot is still under wraps in terms of why most humans are living off the planet when Morgan freeman and co were left behind, action and visuals look awesome, I enjoyed the tron reboot so looking forward to this.... More

Too much in the trailers
What is with this trend of showing the entire film in the trailers??! The first half of this looked really good, but having watched the trailer to the end I have no desire to see the film. Any sense of surprise or emotional journey has been completely ruined by a trailer that just plain shows to much. Not going to write it here (in case you've seen this before watching the trailer) but I could probably write a synopsis of the film including a good stab at the final act twist, just from More
