The Conjuring Teaser Trailer Arrives
And James Wan talks about the film

27 February 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Facebook

James Wan is back to scare us all silly with more supernatural creepiness in the wake of Insidious. Before, it wasn’t the house that was haunted. But for his next trick, The Conjuring, the property’s most definitely got issues. Check out the teaser trailer below.

Based on a true (or at least 'true') story, The Conjuring finds the Perron family (led by parents played by Lily Taylor and Ron Livingston) moving into what they think will be a fixer-upper family home with plenty of room for everyone.

What they don’t count on is a terrifying array of spirits, ranging from the benign to the horrific, most notably in the spirit of a witch named Bathsheba Sherman who was hanged on the property. Enter investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) Warren, who try to help the Perrons solve their ghost problem.

It’s a tale that has intrigued Wan for a while now, and he told Empire on set that he’s been eager to make it. “I’ve been following the stories about Ed and Lorraine Warren for a long time,” says Wan. “It’s kind of funny to look back years later at films like The Amityville Horror, or The Haunted and say, ‘Wow, that was actually a story about Ed and Lorraine, but they never had the rights to the Warrens! Or learn the parapsychologist characters in Poltergeist were based on Lorraine.’ So when this project came my way, I said, ‘I would love to do something that’s based on a true story.’”

Some new stills from the film are online, and you can see them below.

And if that's not enough for you in one day, check out the poster...

The Conjuring arrives on July 19. For more on the movie, check out Empire’s 2013 horror preview, in the issue that hits stores February 28.

RE: The Conjuring teaser trailer
Looks like Secret of Crickley Hall, written by writer of Whiteout and Baywatch Nights, I'm guessing a cheap hour or so of standard horror tricks.  More

L: MonsterCat At least it had Rose Byrne adding the sexy to it. adly I'm the wrong gender/sexuality to fully benefit from Ms Byrne's winsome charms, but she is certainly a very pretty girl. L: OrganicLifeform I get where you're coming from. It's true that Insidious is a mixed bag, but for some reason I really enjoyed the things it did right and found it very easy to look past its 'mistakes'. I think it comes down to the mood of the film: most horror films fail to be cre More

RE: The Conjuring teaser trailer
L: Cloud Cuckoo I love ghost stories and dearly wish I could get excited about this, but it just looks like another run-of-the-mill haunted house tale with cheap jump scares and giggling children ghosts that are about as scary as Santa. I had high hopes for Insidious when I saw the trailer. Turned out the trailer was more frightening than the film when the glimpsed (and genuinely unsettling) red-faced demon turned out to be Darth Maul, and the plot completely raped the boundaries More

I think it comes down to the mood of the film: most horror films fail to be creepy or unsettling, and to me Insidious definitely had that classic ghost story vibe. I also enjoyed how it took some left turns. Oh, and regarding your signature: indeed we do. Amok is amazing. More

Big fan of Insidious (and quite liked Dead Silence), so I'm eagerly awaiting this film and the upcoming Insidious sequel. Based on the trailer I'd say Wan has done it again. More
