Singer Talks Peter Dinklage's X-Men Role
'He won't be CGI'

22 February 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: IGN

Bryan Singer, Peter Dinklage

There was much rejoicing and no little speculation when it was announced last week that Game Of Thrones star and all-round legend Peter Dinklage would be joining the cast of X-Men: Days Of Future Past as a character only talked about as an antagonist. Now Bryan Singer, the man responsible for wrangling all the various elements of the film, has addressed some of the chatter about Dinklage’s possible role.

To be clear, he doesn’t actually say who Dinklage is playing, only putting to rest the idea he’s Puck during a chat with IGN and also denying that he’ll be some sort of computer-spawned digital concoction.

“He’s not going to be a CGI character,” Singer says. “He’ll be himself. Not that he’ll be playing Peter Dinklage, he’ll be playing this character. It’s not a shy character. He’s just such a phenomenal actor; I’m a huge fan of Peter’s and Game Of Thrones. He was my first choice and I was really happy about the casting. It’s so funny to talk to him because he does that impeccable accent on Thrones and then you talk to him and he’s this guy from New Jersey.”

Now, of course, our minds will be spinning wondering who he's actually playing.

The director is, as you might expect, hard at work on pre-production for the film, but did mention that he’s negotiating with another actor and that some younger characters will be announced shortly. We already know that X-veterans James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Anna Paquin are among those returning for the film.

Shooting begins in a couple of months and X-Men: Days Of Future Past will be out on July 18, 2014.

RE: Modok?!?
L: AxlReznor As far as I can tell, MODOK has appeared in X-Men comics exactly twice, and that was in 2006. I could be wrong, though. In any case, I'd be highly surprised if they were allowed to use him... and I really hope they're not. sp; Plus Singer has confirmed that Dinklage's character won't be CGI based so I'd be very surprised if it turns out to be MODOK.   Puck seems like the safest bet. Trask or Bastion
I agree he's going to have a part with the Sentinels. As I've said before MODOK is more avengers than x-men (even if MODOK would be cool to see on the big screen) But i say Trask or Bastion, Yes Trask was in Last stand but no one remembers/knew in the first place and Bastion is just awesome More

RE: I reckon
L: MusicLovesYou He'll be playing Bolivar Trask. Days of Future Past is about Sentinels after all. rask was in X3 and was played by Bill Duke. If theres any continuity to be had (which Singer has said there will be) then going from a tall, bald, black man to a small white man is a bit of an ask! Also - why would they cast a midget as Trask who is a normal sized man in the comics? Theres no reason for it at all! Then again as we all know directors and studios etc can fiddle with More
