Daniel Espinosa Finds The Racketeer
He's developing the John Grisham book

13 February 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

Daniel Espinosa

What does any director do when his last film is a hit? Why, he takes as many meetings and grabs hold of as many possible projects as he can, of course! That certainly seems to be true of Safe House man Daniel Espinosa, who is setting up several potential movies. He’s just signed on to develop an adaptation of John Grisham’s latest novel The Racketeer.

Fox 2000 and New Regency are backing this one, and are now looking for a writer to tackle turning the novel into a script.

Grisham’s book is in typically legal thriller territory, this time concerning the murder of a federal judge at his lakeside cabin. The contents of his safe are pinched and the only man who knows the truth of the matter is a former attorney serving time in the slammer, who hopes to use the information to exact some revenge on those who put him behind bars.

As the script cooks in the development oven, Espinosa will focus on other things, most crucially Soviet-era thriller Child 44, which has Tom Hardy and Noomi Rapace set to star.
