Gillian Anderson Battles Robot Overlords
With help from Grabbers' Jon Wright

06 February 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Screen Daily

Gillian Anderson

Director Jon Wright delivered a blast of pure horror comedy fun late last year with Grabbers. While he was doing the press rounds for the drink-soaked tentacle terror, he talked up his next project, sci-fi adventure Our Robot Overlords. We’re still waiting to hear if Calculon has accepted an offer to play one of the villains, but thanks to Screen Daily, we do know Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley are on board.

With $21 million to play with this time, Wright is in pre-production on the film, which takes place three years after a robot invasion of the planet. Everyone in the world is confined to their homes by way of an implant, but a gang of teenagers figure out how to deactivate theirs and head off on an adventure.

“I’ve got a film that’s shooting in May,” Anderson told Daily’s sister publication Broadcast. “It’s a fantastic script set in the future about a woman who has four or five kids living with her in a world run by robots and they break out in search of the father who’s gone missing.”

No word yet on who Kingsley’s playing – though we can hear him as a seemingly benevolent robot commander even now.

You can track the movie’s progress on its official twitter feed. We're definitely looking forward to this one.
