Bad news for Amy Adams: it appears she trusted her GPS when heading for the adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel Dark Places, and she ended up in vaguely murky places instead. It’s an easy mistake to make… The film now needs a lead, and it seems Charlize Theron is interested. Gilles Paquet-Brenner is still attached to direct his script, which digs deep into repressed memory and how events can be altered by the passage of time. Fans will notice a few shades of Atonement in the synopsis below.
If she signs on to star and produce, Theron will play a woman whose family was slaughtered when she was seven. Back in the day, she pointed to her brother as the culprit, testifying against him in court. Now, 25 years later, the Kill Club, a group obsessed with notorious crimes, confronts her with some searching questions about what actually happened that day. Could the truth lie somewhere in between? Probably… The film’s distribution rights will be sold at the Berlin Film Festival market later this week and Theron jumps aboard, that would help it immensely. Paquet-Brenner wants the cameras rolling in March. Flynn’s works are hot properties at the moment, especially given how her book most recent book, Gone Girl, rocketed up the bestseller lists. David Fincher is circling that one and Sharp Objects is sitting in Jason Blum’s development shed. Theron, who is also considering Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways To Die In The West, most recently worked on Mad Max: Fury Road. |
