Paquin On For X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Ellen Page & Shawn Ashmore also set

27 January 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Bryan Singer

Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Shawn Ashmore

Press releases? Bryan Singer don’t need no stinking press releases. Having already tipped off the world to the fact that Hugh Jackman will be bringing his claws back to the main X-Men fold for Days Of Future Past, the director has now tweeted that Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Ellen Page will all be on duty for the First Class sequel.

Paquin played Rogue through the first three X-Men movies, helping to lead the audience into the world of the mutants in the first and flourishing into a full member of the team by The Last Stand.

Ashmore was also present from the off, playing Bobby Drake, aka Iceman, whose frost-creating character fell hard for Rogue. Their relationship continued even though her power/life-draining abilities meant physical contact was problematic at best.

Page was a late arrival compared to those two, taking over the role of Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) for X-Men: The Last Stand after Katie Stuart played the character briefly in X2 and Sumela Kay briefly cameoed in X-Men.

The Pryde character has a major arc in the Days Of Future Past comic book, so it makes sense she’ll show up in the movie alongside Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto. In the book, she's the one whose astrally--projected future self takes over her body in the past to warn the X-Men of the coming danger and alter the future - but since she's too young to exist in the First Class universe we're guessing that someone else (Professor X?) will take that job here.

Since there’s time travel involved, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy will be back as the younger Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr alongside Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult as Beast.

Singer, working from a script by Simon Kinberg, is set to kick off shooting soon to meet a July 18, 2014 release date.

RE: This won`t be good
L: AdamL10 It doesn`t actually fit with the first two: Xavier states in the first X-men that he and Erik met when they were 17 , they clearly weren`t 17 in first class. In X2 Erik claims to have helped Xavier build Cerebro, yet in First Class Hank built Cerebro In X-men 1 Xavier is suprised when he can`t read Erik`s thoughts because he isn`t aware of the helmet, in First Class he clearly experiences the effects of the helmet and sees it, so why would he just forget? RE: YES!
sounds good - happy that they are bringing so many characters back but also worry that the cast might be too big - i'm guessing some might be small parts only. anyway another i'm really looking forward too. More

Drokk to minor fanservice throwaway references. If a film has characters I'm sympathetic to, a decent plot and sfx that's not too intrusive, then it can stand on it's own. More

X-Med: Days of Accents Past
I can't wait for this film! Really looking forward to it explaining Magneto's sudden, ridiculous and reality shattering change of accent in the last 10 minutes of First Class? Can anyone explain why he goes all Irish after killing Sebastian Shaw? Is it cos he and Chuck are having their first barny and the ramifications of such a momentous event forces reality to judder? Or was it simply Magneto's second stage mutation? And just as important, how come he's English again by the time X-Men and More

RE: This won`t be good
First Class was an awesome film. Not sure how it "destroyed" continuity. It fits perfectly well with the first two movies... I'm pretty sure they're intentionally pretending The Last Stand and Wolverine never happened (kind of like how Singer pretended Superman III and IV never happened when he made Returns). More

This won`t be good
Fox have shown to be pretty much useless when it comes to their Marvel properties, X-Men 1 and 2 are the only ones that are any good. First Class was a terrible film which succeeded only in totally destroying continuity. Yet they are still insisting on it being a prequel, going to be awful. (I`m hoping that the rights to the Fantastic Four revert back to Marvel before they can get a film into production in time, then they can`t screw that up some more as well) More

L: kittybinks Too many characters again. How are the audience supposed to get involved with any of them when their average screen time appears to be less than 5 minutes? sp; Because not every character has to be a lead character? More

But can we have Cyclops back? I know he's not the most popular character, but he's pretty central to the X-Men universe. More

Glad to see Iceman back. Loved his character. Never liked Ellen Page as Kitty, Katie Stuart was much better in X-men 1 & 2. So yeah whatever. Really looking forward to this. More

The gang's all here
I'm gonna hope this is not a case of bringing everyone back just for the sake of it, although Ashmore's Iceman never impressed me. Let's hope Kitty is a main focus of this just like the comics as I love Ellen Page. Overall though I'm really excited about this! More
