Lord Sir Danny Of Boyle, as we must call him following his Olympics triumph, is returning to his core job of making films with Trance, a psychological thriller starring James McAvoy, Rosario Dawson and Vincent Cassel. We've already seen the trailer; here's an exclusive new poster for the film.
The official synopsis tells us that this film is about "a fine art auctioneer, mixed up with a criminal gang, who join forces with a hypnotherapist to recover a lost painting." Watching the trailer below, it would appear that McAvoy is the auctioneer, Dawson the hypnotherapist and Cassel the leader of the criminal gang. Then again, it would also appear from the trailer that it's not nearly as simple as that synopsis would have us believe, and in fact we suspect it might be one of those summaries that verges on actively misleading. However that's pure speculation for now.
Trance is out in the UK on March 27, and sees Boyle reunited with screenwriter John Hodges and frequent musical collaborators Underworld, who composed the score. Can it match up to his Olympics opening ceremony, or his much-lauded theatrical production of Frankenstein? In Boyle we trust.
In Danny we don't trust. Looks kind of unambitious too, would have thought Boyle-ly-boy would have gone for something with a wider canvass after getting so much over-rated head from the UK meeja lately. More
