Meet The Food-imals From Meatballs 2
Cloudy with a chance of... flamangos?

18 January 2013  |  Written by Ali Plumb

cloudy with a chance of meatballs 2

If you were worried that the sequel to the immensely charming 2009 Sony Pictures Animation Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs - now without the directorial talents of Phil Lord and Chris Miller - wouldn't have the same inventive wit as the original, fret not, for this new still from Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 boasts a whole menagerie of encouraging titbits.

With the plot carrying on straight after the events of the first Meatballs adventure, eccentric young inventor Flint Lockwood (Bill Hader) and his weather reporter girlfriend Sam Sparks (Anna Faris) are drawn back into the weird and wonderful world of the water-into-food machine that is the FLDSMDFR.

Presumed to have been destroyed, it turns out that the machine has survived, creating a Jurassic Park-like island full of bonkers animal/food hybrids, including cucumbirds, fruit cockatiels, wildebeets, hippopotami, watermelophants and bananostrichs. In other words, set phasers to pun, ladies and gentlemen, because food-based wordplay is the aim of the game.

You can see more detailed zoom-ins of these 'food-imals' on USA Today, as well as a better shot of that strawberry fellow Sam's holding - whose name is Barry, by the way.

Almost the whole cast of the original have returned for flamango fun, except that Mr. T has dropped out of the Officer Earl Devereaux role and Terry Crews has taken his place. As for the new directors, they're none other than the first Cloudy's story artist (Cody Cameron) and head of story (Kris Pearn). Lord and Miller, meanwhile, have been taking time out of their Lego movie to exec-produce.

At one time called Cloudy 2: The Revenge Of The Leftovers, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 will be showing the world exactly what a shrimpanzee is on its release in September 27 this year.

Your Comments

Oh Dear
I loved the first movie but this sequel seems completely unnecessary. Cloudy 1 was one of the few animated movies to actually offer something different, and now it looks like they're jumping on the franchise bandwagon. Hopefully I will be proved wrong though. More

Let's hope that MEATBALLS 2 is every bit as charming & engaging as the first. It's a delightful picture & I hope that they create a worthy sequel. More
