First Pic Of Michael Fassbender In Frank
Gyllenhaal! Gleeson! Fassb... Big Head!

Trailing by a bicep in the world’s sexiest man stakes (Channing Tatum, all rights reserved), Michael Fassbender is striking back in just the way you’d expect... by sticking a Frank Sidebottom-like head on and travelling into the desert. Your move, Gosling.

Fassbender, an actor firmly set on the path less travelled, is Frank, mysterious leader of an indie band that will be doing likewise in Jon ‘The Man Who Stare At Goats’ Ronson’s story. Domhnall Gleeson joins him and his crazed band member Maggie Gyllenhaal in a tour that, on the basis of this picture alone, looks like it will combine the very best of Almost Famous and a heavy dose of peyote. This first look comes courtesy of UK distributors Artificial Eye.

Fassbender’s Frank character was based by Ronson on the man behind Sidebottom, comedian and musician Chris Sievey, and cult musical heroes Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart. Tinker Tailor writer Peter Straughan helped nugget out the screenplay.

Lenny Abrahamson, whose much-praised drama, What Richard Did, is out tomorrow, isn't resting on his laurels. Frank started shooting in this week in New Mexico, with Film4, the BFI, the Irish Film Board signing the cheques. Intrigued isn't the half of it.
