Skyfall Up For Producer's Guild Gong
Argo & more also nominated

03 January 2013  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Producers Guild

Skyfall

It might not have the cachet of, say, an Oscar or some of the higher profile guild awards, but the Producers Guild of America gong is the single most reliable Best Picture Oscar predictor. And while a lot of this year’s film nominees have been on other lists, it also opens the field up to movies – like Skyfall, for example – that haven’t been shown much love previously.

Yes, the reliable likes of Lincoln, Life Of Pi, Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Django Unchained and Les Miserables are all present and correct. But there are also separate categories for animated films that sees such efforts as ParaNorman, Brave and Wreck-It Ralph nominated, plus documentaries and then the TV categories.

Goggle box-wise, it’s a mix of the expected (Homeland, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Downton Abbey in drama) and some nice surprises (Louie alongside the bigger hitters in comedy).

The winners will be announced on January 26.
