First Six Minutes Of Maniac Arrive
Elijah Wood's in a lethal mood

28 December 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Warner Bros.

The trend for studios putting the first few minutes of films online as a taster for us cinemagoers continues apace. We’ve already had four minutes of Warm Bodies, and now comes something just as horror-laden, as Elijah Wood kicks off his killing spree in the opening scenes from Maniac. Be warned that it gets NSFW right at the end.

Maniac, a remake of the 1980 chiller, finds Wood as Frank, the owner of a mannequin shop who prefers to remain withdrawn and secluded. But when artist Anna (Nora Arnezeder) asks for help with her latest installation, the initial friendship curdles to obsession and something lethal and tortured within Frank is awakened.

P2’s Frank Khalfoun directs, working from a script co-written by Alexandre Aja and Gregory Levasseur. As with some of the footage in the trailer, this opening is told from Frank’s point of view as he stalks a victim. It’s set to open here on March 15, though we’re still wondering if it’ll have a ratings battle with the BBFC like the original did back in 1981…

Does Bilbo know about Frodo's midnight shenanigans? He's bound to be a might bit pissed off, when he gets an ear of this. More

Looks great
I saw the original years ago but it didnt live up to the promise of the front cover and tag line. It was pretty poor to be fair Loving the synth score and tone so count me in! More

Also saw it at Frightfest
I keep telling the naysayers that this film is fantastic and the Frightfest crowd ate it up, and they argue that it's crap, despite not having seen it! That's the very definition of ignorance dumbasses! More

I said to myself so far so Maniac then the credits told me it was based on Maniac and I felt smug, and then dissapointed. More

Saw this at Frightfest 2012
As remakes go this is one of the good ones. It maintains an air of gloom and unpleasantness that I've not felt since Silence of the Lambs. I think the version I saw was uncut so it'll be interesting to see if it's the same version heading into cinemas. More
