Welcome To The Punch Trailer Hits
It's McAvoy vs Strong

11 December 2012  |  Written by James White

Ancient gangster film wisdom teaches us that, “If you go up against that there Mark Strong, mate, you’re gonna get ‘urt.” You would think everybody knows this, but apparently James McAvoy hasn’t learned that lesson as he decides to take him on in Eran Creevy’s Welcome To The Punch. Check out the first trailer below.

Punch finds McAvoy as Max Lewinsky, a police detective determined to take down his criminal nemesis, Jacob Sternwood (Strong). He thinks he sees his chance when Sternwood is forced to return to London when his son is hospitalised following a botched heist.

But that’s just the inciting incident. As Lewinsky gets deeper into the case, he discovers that there’s a much bigger conspiracy at play.

From the looks of this, Creevy and his cast definitely went the stylised route, with slow-mo bullet flinging, plenty of fire and lots of tough bloke stand-offs, particularly between our two leads.

And the cast it stacked with great actors, including David Morrissey, Peter Mullan, Johnny Harris, Andrea Riseborough and Steve Oram.

Welcome To The Punch bashes into UK cinemas on March 15.

Rise of British Action
Was initially worried that it looked a bit like Blitz, but it got a whole lot better when the machine guns appeared. With this and The Sweeney I'm hoping its a sign that the UK action film is ready to take on Hollywood More

Punchy
Not a very punchy trailer though is it? Looks lovely but lots of random people firing guns does not a good trailer make. More
