Disney Heads Back To Wonderland
Linda Woolverton writing Alice sequel

09 December 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Variety

Alice In Wonderland

Though the critical reaction was definitely mixed, Disney’s 2010 take on Alice In Wonderland made more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, and snagged art direction and costume design Oscars. So it’s not all that shocking to learn that the Mouse House wants to craft a sequel.

At this early stage, only one person is formally attached, as Alice screenwriter Linda Woolverton is on to write the script.

And given where the project is at right now, the plot details are still being worked out. Also, since the first film dipped into both Lewis Carroll's Alice In Wonderland and Alice Through The Looking Glass, there’s no sign yet on what the story would be.

Disney has been quick to capitalise on the success of the first movie, which featured Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska, Helen Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway among the cast and Tim Burton directing. It’s being turned into a stage musical that Woolverton penned.

And the writer, whose history with the company stretches back to Beauty And The Beast, has been busy of late working on Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie. That one should be out in 2014.
