Inarritu Flies To Birdman
He's tackling a comedy

Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu

When you think of the filmmakers who specialise in cinematic comedy, the first name that naturally comes to mind probably isn’t Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who has brought the world Amores Perros, 21 Grams, Biutiful and Babel. But he’s a great creative talent, so it’s exciting to discover that he’s finding his funny bone for Birdman.

The plot will follow an actor whose life and career is in crisis. Gone are his salad days, when he played an iconic superhero, and now he’s looking to the Broadway stage to give him a boost. But he’s got to battle his own ego as he tries to recover his family, his career and himself.

Inarritu co-wrote the script with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris and Armando Bo, and while we figure it was always intended as a comedy, we still have a twisted mental picture of his co-writers adding in fart gags and physical comedy until Inarritu agreed to make it all funny…

The director is scheduled to kick off the wackiness in March. But to keep his mind toned, he’s also still at work on developing true-live revenge tale The Revenant for New Regency.
