New Croods Trailer Arrives
The not-so modern stone age family

DreamWorks Animation, as part of its new partnership with 20th Century Fox, held one of its bi-annual presentations of new ‘toons earlier this week. While our chats with the various filmmakers are embargoed until a later date, the company has released a new trailer for The Croods, which you can see below.

The Croods, co-written and directed by Kirk De Micco and How To Train Your Dragon’s Chris Sanders, follows a prehistoric family living in the fictional Croodacious period.

It’s a place where danger – including a variety of weird cross-species animals – lurks around every boulder and the night is riddled with terror. To survive, the father of the group, Grug (Nicolas Cage) makes sure everyone stays safely in their cave when they’re not hunting for food.

But his teenage daughter Eep (Emma Stone) is sick and tired of her dad’s overprotective ways and just wants to get out and explore. When she meets Guy (Ryan Reynolds) a slightly more evolved hominid, she sees her chance. And then things really change when the continents start drifting, destroying the family’s cave. The scene is set for an epic journey of miles and, just maybe, discovery…

With Catherine Keener, Clark Duke and Cloris Leachman also among the cast, The Croods will roll into town on March 22.

Dreamworks have raised their game
I wasn't expecting much, but they've clearly improved the animation quality to almost Pixar standard (almost). Seems to have some improved characterisation and jokes too. Time will tell. Just as an aside, does every flipping animation ever released have to have a central 21st century family with a sarcastic, whining teenager, beleaguered Dad and stoic Mum (sorry, Mom)? Why not present a family with a slightly different outlook on life. Or hell, even take a risk and be period-accurtae rather than More
