Seventh Son Pics Arrive
Julianne Moore is bewitching...

03 December 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: USA Today

Peter Jackson’s return to the world of Middle-earth with The Hobbit isn’t the only fantasy series getting the film treatment in the coming months and years. Other novel adaptations are walking the cine-paths, including a version of Joseph Delany’s The Spook’s Apprentice, which has been re-titled Seventh Son for the screen. Now, courtesy of USA Today, we have our first look at the movie above.

Seventh Son finds young Tom (Ben Barnes) apprenticed to The Spook, AKA Master John Gregory (Jeff Bridges), whose mission it is to fight off supernatural threats. Talking to the paper about his gruff warrior, Bridges explains: “He's an interesting cat. He's appreciated for keeping evil away, but he's also a frightening figure to the townspeople. When you mess around with darkness, some of that gets in you, too."

The real threat, though, is Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore, who you can see in the gallery above), a powerful witch who Gregory has imprisoned but who manages to escape. As she rounds up her followers, Gregory must ready Tom and some other volunteers to fight her off.

With Sergei Bodrov directing the film and Kit Harington, Alicia Vikander and Djimon Hounsou also among the cast, Seventh Son is set to arrive on October 18 next year. For more from Bridges and co, head to USA Today.
