2012 Indie Spirit Nominations Announced
Silver Linings Playbook scores five

27 November 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Movie City News

Silver Linings Playbook

The Film Independent Spirit Awards, which celebrate low budget and innovative indie filmmaking, are handed out each year the day before the Oscars, in this case ladling out the gongs on February 23 next year. And this year’s nominations have been announced, with Silver Linings Playbook and Moonrise Kingdom leading the field.

Though it’s intriguing to see the likes of Silver Linings Playbook (which tied with Moonrise Kingdom for the most nominations) up against much smaller budgeted/distributed movies, we’re pleased to see such films as Smashed, End Of Watch, Amour, and Compliance on the list. Even Magic Mike rounded up one nod for Matthew McConaughey’s swaggery turn.

“The nominations this year represent an astonishingly strong group of artists both in front of and behind the camera,” said Film Independent Co-president Josh Welsh in a statement. “At Film Independent, we nurture artist-driven filmmaking all year long and I can’t imagine a more fitting or worthy group of films to celebrate here today.”
