New Hobbit Production Blog Online
Welcome to the mad rush of post...

25 November 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Peter Jackson

Given the epic undertaking that is Peter Jackson’s work on the Hobbit trilogy, you would expect post-production to be a hectic affair. If you saw any of the Lord Of The Rings post-production blogs or watched the extras, you know that even when the movies are close to release, there’s plenty of work still to be done. Jackson’s latest video blog takes us to his post-production facility and the insane scramble to edit, slot in effects and music and whisk the whole thing into shape. Take a look above.

Jackson gives us a whirlwind tour of various post departments – the edit suite, visual affects, sound design and mixing etc. – but the story here is largely told by the huge team beavering away to get everything perfect. Even conceptual artists John Howe and Alan Lee are still hard at it, designing imagery to fill blue screen gaps or anything else that needs their input.

Jackson admits that the final version of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey won’t be ready until two days before its premiere in New Zealand, which, now that time has marched on, is just a couple of days away. If you want to see the other production video blogs, take your web browser on a quest here.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits UK cinemas on December 13 and then arrives in the US on December 14. Let’s hope it all gets done in time and Andy Serkis doesn't have to play the goblins using sock puppets. Though we would actually pay to see that.

Really excited, but also kind of annoyed by all the stuff I was looking forward to seeing for the first time during the actual film. Still, only 3 or so weeks to go, eh? Feels like I've been waiting forever.... More
