To the surprise of exactly no one, the box office behemoth that is the Twilight franchise brought the curtain down on at least the current iteration of its story with a sizable launch around the world. Though the second part of Breaking Dawn didn’t shatter any records, it still dominated the US charts with $141.3 million in its first weekend.

As with Skyfall, no studio dared open a wide release against it, though Silver Linings Playbook and Anna Karenina arrived in limited showings to decent returns. Talking of Bond’s latest outing, Skyfall continued its successful run (it’s now the highest-earning outing for 007 around the world) with $41.5 million for second place. Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln expanded its screen count and soared up to third, taking home $21 million. Wreck-It Ralph slipped to fourth, earning $18.3 million while Flight dropped to fifth and $8.6 million.

Sixth was Argo, which made $4 million, ahead of Taken 2 at seventh and $2.1 million. Pitch Perfect and Here Comes The Boom jockeyed for eighth and ninth, with $1.26 and $1.2 million respectively. And Cloud Atlas was 10th, earning $900,000.
