Hear Neil Finn's Hobbit Credits Song
Musical joy is this way...

Neil Finn

Amid all the music in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and now An Unexpected Journey, which kicks off The Hobbit, one of the highlights has always been the end credits songs. For his latest, Peter Jackson has tapped the towering music talent that is Neil Finn of Crowded House and the Finn Brothers. You can hear the result of his labours over at Rolling Stone.

It’s a beautiful piece of work that, according to Finn himself, takes its inspiration from within the film.

"The Song Of The Lonely Mountain was developed from a dark and mysterious theme which the dwarves sing early in the movie," Finn tells Rolling Stone. "After some days of mining underground (actually, in Peter’s office) I emerged with the song, then set about recording it with my sons Elroy and Liam. Dave Fridmann came in at the end with a bold mix. He seemed to respond well to my demands for 'more anvil!' Pop music needs more anvil!” You hear that, Psy? More anvil! Also, Anvil? MORE ANVIL!

You may already know that the current issue of Empire is a massive Hobbit celebration with 63 pages about the new trilogy and five collectable 3D lenticular covers (you can see some of the images among the posters in the gallery below). If not, get thee to the nearest newsagent or other magazine emporium and grab one. Or pick up an iPad and see it in UK and US flavours (flavor in the US, of course).

The time is almost upon us – The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey finally arrives on December 14.

Didn't like it at first but definitely gets better and quite addictive the more you listen to it. More

Odd... but oddly fantastic
On my first listen, I found it a bit strange but the more I listen to it, the more I love it. Actually rather epic and stirring. Arguably better than that Enya song from The Fellowship. More

Surely
You mean more ENYA! You can't have Tolkien without Enya, even when reading this month's Empire didn't seem right without a bit of Enya in the background... More
