First All You Need Is Kill Pic Arrives
Tom Cruise in a mech suit, anyone?

09 November 2012  |  Written by Ali Plumb  |  Source: Warner Bros.

Doug Liman has directed Vince Vaughn doing up his flies at the side of the road in Swingers and Matt Damon tearing up Paris in a conked out mini in The Bourne Identity, but there's nothing in his back catalogue quite like this new All You Need Is Kill pic: Tom Cruise running away from a massive explosion in a mech suit.

tom cruise all you need is kill

For those not in the know, All You Need Is Kill is based on the critically-acclaimed novel of the same name by Japanese sci-fi author Hiroshi Sakurazaka, which sees its hero Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) forced to fight (and die) over and over again as contact with alien invaders (known as 'Mimics') traps him in a hellish time loop.

This may strike some as being rather similar to the likes of Groundhog Day and Source Code (except, you know, with aliens), but as you can see from the astonishing pic above, there's a whole lot of sci-fi action to look forward to as well as the brain-bending time-wimey-ness.

On hand to help Cage is Special Forces operative Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), a reknowned hero on earth also trapped in her own bloody loop. Then there's a supporting cast including Bill Paxton - a man who isn't afraid of kicking alien ass - Charlotte Riley and the amazingly-named Kick Gurry.

If you haven't read the book already, you can get your hands on an English translation thisaway, and if you'd rather not know too much more about the plot, you can always just click on this thumbnail below for a closer look at Mr. Cruise suddenly remembering he'd left the gas on running away from an explosion.

All You Need Is Kill is set for a March 14 release.

An even bigger twat!
All I can say is Cruise looks like an even bigger twat than he usually does and has now ruined another film with his annoying presence. Bring on the day when this arrogant arse retires! More

form before substance
casting is rubbish- can you imagine chemistry between two homogeneous characters like cruise and blunt? nowadays fans watch movies frame by frame and doesn't Linman realise that his mech suit looks idiotic. weaponry on that suit are two guns- so basically you are looking at modern day rambo who is lazy to carry a gun in each hand... it's a shame that Hollywood's foray into Japanese sci-fi starts with this crap More

Shit Title
If the perfectly fine 'One Shot' becomes the perfectly tedious 'Jack Reacher',then surely they can deal with this.'All You Need Is Kill'? What a load of old shit.'Hellish Time Loop' sounds better than that crap.Empire should get on the phone to Tom Cruise to change the title(as if Doug Liman has the clout anyway) and get them to go back to 'One Shot' while they're at it. And reshoot One Shot too. With another leading man. Edit - this site has rules on libel like any other place on the net More

Whhhaaaaat
I read the script ages ago and I think the mecha suit looks ridiculous. It was an important part of the story too. More

Hmmm
I hope Doug Linman realizes how ridiculous this will be and it doesn't take its self to seriously. Also Emily Blunt in another Sci-Fi/Time travel film.... More
