I think Empire should open up its email address book and ask as many film stars what they think. First and foremost for me would be Simon Pegg / Edgar Wright / Nick Frost and Kevin Smith.
Kevin Smith's hilarious (although he did write one of the worst Batman stories ever) , but I'm not sure I want to see a new Star Wars trilogy that's mostly dick jokes More

I think one of the great challenges for the new trilogy is to come up with a strong villain. Darth Vader was one of the greatest film villains of all time. It's going to be very hard to come up with a new character that can rival Lord Vader!

I don't think this isn't a bad thing, Disney/ Marvel have done well with the Avengers films, so they obviously have people that cherish the material and understand the fans. I'd say it's safer in Disney's hands than Lucas's. He can't leave them alone. With that in mind Disney need to release a blu ray none Special Edition of the first three films (Han Shot first Mickey deal with it) It's a blatant cash in but would get fans on side.

Just got an image in my head of a masked George Lucas standing over legions of Star Wars fans, menacingly stating "when Star Wars is ashes, you have my permission to cry".
The only good thing that might come of this is the release of restored theatrical editions on Blu-ray (which would never have happened while Lucas had full control). Other than that, I don't particularly want to see a haggered Princess Leia strutting around in a gold bikini hand-in-hand with a dementia-suffering Han Solo More

In contrast Cracked pointed out (very amusingly) that most of the Expanded Universe comics sequels stuff tend to be witless retreads of the original trilogy

Even though the prequels were sub par compared to the originals, I still enjoyed them for the pure popcorn fun they were (taxation subplots notwithstanding). That was a big memory of the early films for me... And Universal/ Paramount for Indiana, presumably. But yeah Disney did screw up John Carter not from Mars, so let's hope they let them get on with it- like with Marvel. Could be a good thing, after the appalling sequels- but I don't doubt Lucas will still have his say on things...
And no Willow 2 please :-) More

Great. Now Disney can get a great director (curacon for example) to go back and do the prequels right. Tell us who the Jedi are, why they are special and who the darkside is. Needs more mysticism. No computer generated shit. Use MODELS to mirror look and feel of originals. Make the worlds come alive and don't make a kids film. The originals were not overtly kids orientated, more dads taking their boys to the pictures but for their own selfish reasons orientated. More

| Almost Certainly Good News |
The prequels left a bad taste in my mouth, and nearly everyone else's, so this is probably a good thing. Get the right creative team in there-- making sure to keep Lucas out of the director's chair-- and the new movies could be amazing. They'll never be the original trilogy, but what is? There's no way any new Star Wars movie could've lived up to our collective memories of them, and that's the main reason the naysayers feel so strongly about the prequels. (No, scratch that. They really WERE most More

| RE: lucas films |
es that mean Disney have their hooks into Indiana Jones too?es. A rebooted Indiana Jones franchise will mean a new actor playing the role. The franchise can't sustain itself with Ford playing the part. He's in his 70s so it will be a new actor as Indiana Jones. Well, I assume so. I guess Ford could return for one last film but it would make sense to reboot the franchise with a new actor. More

Well, this was a shock. Lucas is a billionaire already, surely he didn't need another four billion. Everyone is asking who will write and direct Episode 7, more importantly how can you have a Star Wars film without Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker? And does that mean Disney have their hooks into Indiana Jones too?

With Disney owing all of Lucasfilm do you think this means George Lucas won't get much out of the new films? I wonder if he'll still get a cut of the new toys for the new prequels, plus a percentage of the films' gross? He's a canny businessman so there might be more to the deal than just the four billion dollars sale. More

Can't be any worse than those other 3 rubbish films. You'd have to be a muppet to make them. I reckon Lucas watched them back and realised this, and (like a dog staring at its own vomit) knew it was over...

I must admit, this news completely blindsided me. My initial thougts were of the 'on rolls the cash cow' variety but, thinking on it, this could actually be a good thing.
The best thing aboout it that there will be no George Lucas on directorial duties and, whilst I imagine he will have some say with the overall story development, scripting duties will probably go elsewhere. This is potentially very good news and if it's all done properly, we could get some great Star Wars movies. Given th More

Not sure this is a good thing - if only because Disney seems to be slowing absorbing everything. Still it's a nice payday for Uncle George so I doubt he'll care too much what they do with his properties.
I bet the Mouse House won't be nearly so generous towards fan films. spoofs etc as Lucas has been though
