Evil Dead Trailer Screams In
Evil lives again

25 October 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Sony

After the first image hitting the web and a teaser that mashed-up footage of the cast at the New York Comic-Con and slivers of the trailer, we now welcome the full on, gore-soaked red band trailer for the remake of Evil Dead. Take a peek – if you dare – above.

From the looks of this first proper glimpse, the movie, produced by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell and directed by Fede Alvarez, doesn’t hold back and doesn’t skimp on the horror.

It’s also more of a reinvention than a remake, with a group of young ‘uns (including Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Jessica Lucas and Lou Taylor Pucci) standing in for Campbell’s Ash as the unfortunates who head to a spooky cabin in the woods, discover the Necronomicon, read chunks and unleash terrible evil.

Raimi and Alvarez certainly appear to have put their cast through similar tribulations to the ones Campbell endured, tweaking elements here and there (the grabby trees seem even worse this time around). Question is, can it be as wildly entertaining as the lo-fi classic that spawned it?

We’ll find out if the whole thing works as well as this glimpse when Evil Dead arrives on April 12.

RE: Come on people!
L: Wild about Wilder The only half decent horror remake I really can think of is The Hills Have Eyes. would say the best one I've ever seen is the Dawn of the Dead remake...which is hard to say as the original is one of my favourite films of all time!! More

looks pretty good
It looks fairly gruesome and it looks quite scary as well, it seems as if the guy with the glasses will be like the new Ash, either that or bits of Ash's personality will be infused into the lot of them any ho it looks enjoyable and I hope it isn't shit. More

Come on People! Always such a fuss made about remakes! I'm a HUGE fan of the cult classic we know and love as the Evil Dead but.... my god this trailer looks BRILLIANT From what I know about Sam Raiimi, this is what he always wanted to achieve but couldnt at the time given his finances and the era the original was shot. Our perception of what is 'scary' has changed since the 70's. The Evil Dead was a brilliant flick for it's time, but with today's standards it doesnt weigh up. I love the More

Scarier than I was expecting.
I'm not a puritanical idiot so I think it's cool that they've done something new with it. Looks a lot more horrifying than the original as the comedy element has been ditched. Hopefully this will be properly horrible. I like a good scare. More

RE:
I think this Film is looking to be purposefully unlike the original in certain aspects. I think its going to be alot more even grounded interms of realism and drama,But it'll obviously keep the manic tension and the sense of doom upon all those involved in this nightmarish situation. What I do find humorous is the fact that Evil Dead could be regarded as now having two remakes ie Evil Dead 2 and now Evil Dead (2013). And rether you agree that Evil Dead 2 was a remake or not you have to More

Looks decent!
I'm not usually a fan of remakes but I think this looks good. When approaching this film I think the best thing to do will be not to think of it as a remake at all. They don't look like they have tried to capture the essence of the original at all (the original was more funny and scary). I would rather see a film where I don't know every single thing that is going to happen (like the totally pointless remake of let the right one in!). If it scares the hell out of me then as far as I'm concerned, More

Pointless
Another completely pointless remake. Evil Dead 2 is all you need. As some people have already suggested, taking Bruce Campbell/Ash out of the Evil Dead story is like taking Spiderman out of the Spiderman films. He is the hero of the story. Without him it's just another bunch of kids getting slaughtered in the woods. Ok - there's a few Evil Dead moments that they seem to have included - the chainsaw, the book, the monster POV crawling through the woods and the tree scene, but we all know that it More

RE: Without Ash...
L: vad3r No Ash in Evil Dead = No Shark in Jaws. o Ash in Evil Dead 2 = No Shark in Jaws In Evil Dead, he was just your usual young protagonist in a horror flick. Nothing particularly special, it wasn't until Evil Dead 2 that he became such a cult icon. It's also an argument for why they shouldn't use Ash in a film, if they ever did then every single person would bitch and complain about him not being as good as Bruce Campbell. More
