Full Iron Man 3 Teaser Trailer Arrives
UPDATE: Now with five new stills

23 October 2012  |  Written by Owen Williams

submit to reddit

The tease is over: following yesterday's flurry of activity, here is the full-blown first trailer for Iron Man 3. And it looks as if Tony Stark has been having rather a rough time of it since the summer's shenanigans in New York.

We start with a snowbound Stark, post-some sort of crash, explaining that he feels the need to apologise. Then there's some business with the newfangled organic Extremis armour leaping onto Stark's hand. We also learn that he's been having trouble sleeping lately. That's presumably exacerbated by a nightmarish moment when a man in his own red and gold armour wakes up Stark and Gwyneth Paltrow's Pepper Potts in the middle of the night.

Action beats include an impromptu mid-air ejection from an aeroplane, and a helicopter attack on chez Stark, leading to a spectacular crumble into the ocean. We also get glimpses of Rebecca Hall, Guy Pearce, and of Ben Kingsley as The Mandarin, who tells us he's a teacher rather than a terrorist, and that there's no such thing as heroes. Harsh. And which version of the armour is Stark towing at the end there?

"Full" is an exaggeration: this is still short enough to qualify as a teaser, so expect much more in the coming months. Iron Man 3, of course, stars Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow as well as newcomers Kingsley and Pearce. Shane Black has taken over directing duties from Jon Favreau this time, and the film's out in the UK a week earlier than in the States, on April 26.

UPDATE: Five new Iron Man 3 stills, both from the trailer and elsewhere, have arrived and you can check them out below, as well as a teaser poster from yesterday.

Looking awesome!
There's a quick scene of a pair of ragged trouser legs with bare feet.....Dr. Banner anyone? Stark mentions New York and not sleeping, wonder if there's any connection! Either way it looks epic! More

Looking Good. Looking darker. Mwah ha ha...
Hope they don't give too much more away in any future trailers. Sir Ben Kingsley, Guy Pierce, RDJ. What's not to like. Fingers crossed this is looking like a terrific follow up to Avengers. I really hope they keep Rhodey and Black Widow included in the story somehow, but then again that might be over loading the soup. More

Looks suitably epic, but then following The Avengers, this has to deliver something special. Loved the music too. Was this created for the teaser, or is taken from something else? More

Good stuff....
I have no evidence for this but I bet a fiver the headset shot is ripped from New Avengers where Tony uses it to control a bunch of armours all at once, without being in any of them. More

RE: Telepresence Armour?
L: Mijacogeo I'm curious about this too. In the clip where the armour appears when Tony and Pepper are in bed, I would lean towards it being controlled by Tony though he might not be aware of it. She seems pretty frantic before the armour even appears and Tony doesn't even open his eyes when she screams so maybe he's somehow gotten locked into the armour through his subconscious or some weird shit. I find it hard to believe that, for a man having nightmares and angsting over losing Pep More

RE: Telepresence Armour?
L: Deckard** As a long term Iron Man reader, could the headset he is wearing be the "telepresence" unit where he controls an "empty" suit of armour through the headset? Or could the armour have gained intelligence like in the later comics and become its own entity 'm curious about this too. Looking Good Mr Black but.....
Did they have to change the armour colour scheme AGAIN. More gold than red, why? Doesn't look as intimidating. Apart from that, looks really interesting, especially the suit grabbing Pepper, freaky! More

L: BelfastBoy Does Shane Black have any script input or is he just directing though? With the exception of Whedon, I've always had the impression that Marvel treat their directors very much like Eon with the Bond films - the director is merely the most eminent hired hand, with the scripts coming from elsewhere. So, if the film's out earlier than it is in the US, any likelihood of us missing out on another post-credits scene like with Avengers?! As for 'Sir' Ben, this is his gold More

RE:
Looks great, but I'd wish they'd stop showing major moments in the trailers. Iron Man 3 is going to be a hit. The first two, and the success of The Avengers show that, so I'd like them to hold back the set pieces from the trailers. The destruction of Stark's home looks like a great moment - it'd be even better if the first time we saw it was in the cinema. I guess I'm being overly harsh though, because this seems to be the trend nowaways. Anyway, it's all looking good. More

Um. I don't know a whole lot about the Mandarin but...why does he have Captain America's shield tattooed on the back of his neck? Intriguing. Trailer looks awesome and like the movie is going to rip my heart out and stomp all over it. I have faith in Shane but I hope he doesn't make it too dark and retains his excellent humour. More

Looks good, will hopefully continue the trend that Dark Knight Rises set of the third film in a superhero franchise not automatically sucking. Usually I'd be concerned about the change of director, but you can't really go wrong with Shane Black. More
