Tom Hardy Targets Another Poaching Pic
Warners wants to develop two at once

16 October 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: Deadline

Remember back at the end of August, when we reported on Tom Hardy, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire going all Voltron by uniting their production companies to craft a film about the fight against animal poaching? Turns it's not the only movie looking to use the subject as fuel, as they've got another one up their joint sleeves. And Warners is developing them both.

First up is the film mentioned in that previous story, a Traffic-style look at the illegal smuggling trade in various animal parts, including ivory. It would be a sprawling global tale and might (though nothing have been decided upon at this time) end up boasting roles for DiCaprio, Hardy and Maguire.

But all that is for future consideration since right now it’s just a pitch. No writer is attached, but the studio is said to be keen on it.

Then there’s Hardy’s own idea, which has also been taken up by the other two via their companies. Up In The Air’s Sheldon Turner has been assigned to focus on the story of a trooper (Hardy, if he likes the script) signing on with a friend to work in the African countryside and train ranchers to fight off poachers. He ends up caring both about the land he’s in and the animals he’s protecting. It will be extremely painful… For the poachers.

Hardy’s still knee deep in the Mad Max: Fury Road shoot and has also recently been linked to Everest. Which is not, contrary to what you might believe, a movie remake of this.
