Though he’s flirted with non-horror projects such as a new version of the Goliath story, The Exorcism Of Emily Rose co-writer-director Scott Derrickson seems happy to stick with horror for now. And who can blame him when he has successes like Sinister, which just opened at the US box office with $18 million against a $3 million budget? Next, Derrickson’s reuniting with the Sinister production team for an adaptation of Stephen King’s novella The Breathing Method.

Told from the point of view of Dr Emlyn McCarron, Method chronicles his dealings with a woman determined to give birth to her illegitimate child despite financial issues and social disapproval in 1930s America. She works on McCarron’s then-revolutionary, Lamaze-like breathing method to help with childbirth. But then, while in labour on the way to the hospital, her taxi crashes, and she’s decapitated… Of course, that’s not the end of the story.

King’s tale is something of an anomaly as it is currently the only part of his Different Seasons collection not to have been made into a film (the others were Rita Hayworth And The Shawshank Redemption, Apt Pupil and The Body, which became Stand By Me).

But Derrickson and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions have decided to change that, hiring Scott Teems to start on the script before looking for financing. So do you see feature-length potential in this macabre tale? Let us know below.
