McGregor Will Be A Son Of A Gun
Ewan's set for an Aussie crime thriller

14 October 2012  |  Written by James White  |  Source: The Hollywood Reporter

The American Film Market kicks off at the end of this month in Santa Monica, which means that various companies, producers and filmmakers will descend on the place like tube buskers looking for cash to help make their cine-dreams a reality. The team behind Julius Avery’s latest project, Aussie crime thriller Son Of A Gun will be there with a cap in one hand, a guitar in another and a head full of Rolling Stones covers. Oh, and Ewan McGregor to star.

Son Of A Gun is being sold as a taut thriller, which finds Australia’s public enemy No.1 developing a complicated relationship with a young protégé.

Avery, who wrote the script, is being talked up as the next David Michod and the potential film itself compared to a blend of Animal Kingdom and Heat. So, you know, no pressure.

If all the financing comes together, Avery will kick off production early next year in Perth and Kalgoorlie.

McGregor has been busy of late, working on The Impossible (due January 2) and Jack The Giant Killer (out March 22). He’s currently shooting the adaptation of August: Osage County alongside Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
