The Hunt Poster Gallops In
Thomas Vinterberg's latest gets a teaser

11 October 2012  |  Written by Phil de Semlyen  |  Source: Exclusive

The man behind one of the true classics of world cinema, 1998's Festen, Thomas Vinterberg's return with The Hunt is something to be cherished. Cherishing is what we do best in these parts - that and waging psychological wars with the office mouse - so it's an especial treat to be able to debut the film's beautiful new teaser poster.

In the same way that Festen explored the ramifications of past secrets on a big but not particularly tight-knit Danish family, The Hunt throws a gallon of poison into a small community's water supply. Not literally - that would make for a short movie - but via rumours of sexual abuse that linger around Mads Mikkelsen's primary school teacher, Lucas.

It's a story that has painful resonance at the moment, although the question of presumed innocence, or lack of it, that shroud the troubled teacher should drive the story in a whole different direction. The tagline gives a clue of what that might direction might be. We're not sure where the deer fits in.

The Hunt, which has already picked up some glowing notices in Cannes, plays at the BFI London Film Festival before opening across the country on November 30.

Brilliant
Saw this at the LFF. Best film I've seen so far this year. Gripping, engaging and intense. A rich and thoughtful meditation on trust, loyalty, family and friendship. Good poster too! More
