Daniel Brühl Is A Most Wanted Man
In Anton Corbijn's Le Carré adaptation

26 September 2012  |  Written by Owen Williams  |  Source: The Playlist

Daniel Brühl Is A Most Wanted Man

Rumoured for a while but only just officially confirmed, Daniel Brühl has joined the already impressive cast of the John Le Carré adaptation A Most Wanted Man. Anton Corbijn (Control, The American), as you'll know by now, is directing.

The story follows Issa, a refugee lately escaped from a Turkish prison and on the run from the Swedish authorities, who claims to be Chechen, but, rather mysteriously, doesn't speak the language. Arriving in Hamburg, he reveals he has the means to access a very private bank account containing a legacy of dubious origin. It's not long before British, German and American intelligence agencies are paying close attention.

Brühl's character is unclear, since the most-wanted role of Issa belongs to Grigoriy Dobrygin (How I Ended This Summer). Philip Seymour Hoffman is aboard the film as German spook Gunther Bachmann; Robin Wright is playing CIA wonk Martha Sulllivan; Rachel McAdams is Annabel Richter, an activist employed as Issa's lawyer; and Willem Dafoe is Tommy Brue, a private banker with connections to Issa in his family's past.

Brühl then, joins a sterling cast of German supporting players that includes Nina Hoss as Irna Frey, as well as Franz Hartwig, Kostja Ullman, Rainer Bock, Charlotte Schwab, Max Volkert Martens and Martin Wuttke. Turkish actress Derya Alabora is also in there somewhere.

Andrew Bovell (Lantana) adapted the novel into screenplay form, and A Most Wanted Man is shooting right now, for a release late next year.
